What a year 2010 has already been! Last Thursday when little man was admitted to the hospital, my husband took our 10 year old lab to the vet. He hadn't been eating really well the past few weeks. After he dropped off Cody at the vet he came back to the hospital to stay with little man and I.
Several hours later hubby received a phone call from the vet. The vet had put a microscopic camera in Cody's stomach. He said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this but Cody has cancer. The cancer has spread to every organ in his body. It's not just on his liver, it's through his liver. It's everywhere. " My husband was absolutely crushed. My husband had bought Cody as a 6 week old puppy before I ever was in the picture. Cody was my husband's baby. They went everywhere together and did everything together. Before hubby and I married Cody slept in the house and was treated like a king. But because of my allergies and because he shed too much, he had to start staying outside after we were married. My family gave me a hard time about Cody. It wasn't that I didn't like him, it was just the shedding I didn't like.
On Saturday hubby decided to go pick up Cody from the vet and take him home for a few days. That way we could have a little bit more time with him before we had to put him down. Monday we had to put Cody down because he was in so much pain and wasn't eating. We were hoping to keep him at least till wednesday but putting him down was the best thing for him.
I have never seen hubby so upset. These past few weeks have been tough! But I will continue to say God is good!

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. We have been thru that twice in the past two years with our dogs, its so tough. Like your husband, mine gets so upset every time. Its so sad.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! When it rains, it pours! So sorry to hear about your loss. We have a schocolate lab, and I dread having to say good-bye to her. She was my first baby, and stuck to me like glue during my miscarriage. Hang in there...and God is good!

ReplyDeleteSo sorry Monica. We also have lost several pets over the last few years; it is so hard. We will be praying for yall!
ReplyDeletesorry to hear about Cody. :( We lost our lab, Coby, in 2006 to bone cancer. She was 13. It is sad losing a pet. Especially, when they are your children before you even consider having them. :) Heck...our powder room still has her pictures in it...and her box of ashes. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be thinking you and your family as you go through this sad time.
Take care!
oh my goodness, mon. i'm so sorry (for hubby especially). i know how HARD it is to put down a very loved dog. i've been through 4 dog, put-downs in my 27 years of life. and the last one, was Buddy, our Black Lab. and like your black lab, all of our dogs had been in our lives for well over 10-14 years. so sad. i'm sorry, mon. when it rains, it pours. :(
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a pet is just the same as losing a family member. You are in my thoughts....
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard putting a pet down can be. 8 years ago I had to put down my 18 year old cat and I am still sad when I think of him!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's so tough. Sorry, he sounds like he was a good dog.
ReplyDeleteOh Monica, I am so sorry :( I never think of 10 being old, but I guess it is. Big hugs to you and your hubby.
ReplyDeleteI am so sad for you. I have tears in my eyes after reading that. :(
ReplyDeleteMy cat is like my child and the thought of losing her makes me sick to my stomach.
Praying for your family and especially your hubby!
So sorry.
