Sex of new little one

Several of you asked if we are going to find out the sex of this little one and the answer is yes!! We will be finding out in the next few weeks. We're still trying to come up with a creative way to find out and tell everyone. With little man we had the the nurse write it in an envelope. We then opened it with all our family. It makes it more fun that way!

I have a very sobering reason for finding out the sex before birth. A very dear friend of mine lost a baby at 20 weeks gestation unexpectedly. I can't get that out of my mind and I understand that just because I make through the first trimester I'm not guaranteed  a healthy pregnancy. When pregnant with little man we couldn't wait to find out so we could give him a name. And others could speak his name. I loved that people would come to my belly and call him by his name. I understand it's not for everyone but for me it's important that people know the baby before he/she is born.

What about you? Did you find out the sex or wait till birth? Do you have any creative ideas for sharing with others?

**I have a fun poll going on, on the left sidebar. Pink or blue?

  1. I have found out the sex with all three of my kiddos and I plan to if we have anymore! :)

I really like your idea with the envelope. :) I like how Josh and Anna Duggar found out! They had someone bake a cake, blue or pink, so that when they cut into the cake they would know what it was. It was a girl so it was a pink cake! That would be fun to do with family. You could take the envelope to a bakery and tell them that you want it to be a surprise! :)

  3. we would find out the sex, but would keep the name we chose a surprise for everyone that we told them once each of our boys was born. then there was a little surprise, but we could be prepared with what we were having! :) we never really told anyone in a fun way, though...we did that when we told them we were expecting. have fun!!!

  6. We found out the sex of our first but we waited with our second. We always have a list of baby names, but not THE name until after the baby is born. I like the way Anna and Josh Duggar found out too :)

  9. We found out :)
Just had them tell us at the office, still wonderful to hear each time...but not quite as "fun" as the more creative ways I've heard!

My favorite was nurse putting it in an envelope,

my friend took envelope to a baby store, picked out 2 beautiful blankets, one pink and one blue.

Opened together at small dinner party that night with friends/family!

  10. We lost our first child to miscarriage and never knew the gender. When I got pregnant again it was very important to me to know as soon as they could tell me. I loved that people could speak his name.

My second child wouldn't co-operate and show us the goods, so she was a beautiful surprise in the delivery room.

I was VERY creative when I found out my third was a girl. I got dressed after my ultrasound, ran down the hospital hall, yanked open the door, looked for my husband and screamed IT"S A GIRL!!!!! Because I'm creative like that.

Can't wait to see what you're carrying - pink or blue :-)

  12. I can't wait to find out too!! I saw on someone's blog a really cute way to tell everyone if it was a boy or girl. They had a party and told everyone to dress in either pink or blue, depending on what they thought the gender of their baby was. All the decorations were pink and blue too. Then half way through the party they told everyone. It was really cute.

  13. Love the cake idea! Friends of ours bought a pink and blue elephant (the elephant had meaning to them). They took them both(in small boxes) and the nurse put an x on the correct box. They opened the box on a web cam for all too see (not all family was close).

  14. We did not do anything special with either of our kids. We did take a poll before but that's about it. My cousin did the cake thing and it looked really neat! I like the envelope idea and sharing it with your family. I'll think a little on a creative idea and see what I come up with. :)

  17. We found out we were having a boy when we were 18 weeks pregnant. We didn't really have a creative way of telling people, but next time around we will!! We also didn't name him until we first saw his little face after I gave birth. But I love the idea of calling your baby by his/her name throughout the pregnancy! I'm sure you will pick just the perfect name for your little angel. I'm excited for you to find out weather you're having blue or pink!

  19. YES, with ALL 4! no way could I wait. We didnt do anything creative, I really LOVE the cake idea too!

With our last baby my daughter locked herself in the kitchen pantry for nearly an hour crying, once she found out she was going to have ANOTHER brother! Poor kid. She saw that "little turtle" once again and just knew having a sister was NO more. I was sad too, knowing how much fun it was growing up with my sisters. PLUS the thought of shopping on the other side of the store again was fun...but really once Jack was born, She was more than thrilled with her little brother.

I cant wait to know what youre having! :) I loved being pregnant and would of had more, but I guess you have to stop somewhere right??! Will keep you in my prayers for a safe and healthy baby.

  20. I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks after my hubby deployed (he's a Marine). When I went for the ultrasound to find out I gave the nurse a card and asked her to write down what we were having. She also inserted a picture of our Little One! I already had the envelope stamped and ready. I had the nurse seal it up to be sure I wouldn't peek and I dropped it in the first mail receptacle I found! I had also taken a separate envelope and the nurse was kind enough to write it down again and even gave us an extra picture. She sealed it as well and it went to my best friend's house for safe keeping as a back up in case the one headed to my hubby in Japan got lost in the mail!! The mail was delayed and he didn't get it until a MONTH later!! We were all so anxious!! I got a late night phone call and hubby opened the envelope while on the phone w/me and he told me we were having a girl!! It was a great moment!! I wanted there to be a way for him to experience something big while so far away. Since I was getting everything first hand I thought it was great that hubby knew before me what I was carrying =) Our sweet girl is now 19 months and I can't wait for the next one!

Congratulations!! Praying for safe and healthy pregnancy for your family =)

I read the blog story about the party where everyone dressed in pink or blue, too cute!! What about combining a party like that w/the cake idea? They're both great!!

  21. Both of our children's sex were a surprise as sonograms were seldom used in the late 1970s and early 80s unless there was a problem. I suspected our first baby was a girl but unsure about our 2nd which was a boy. It's kinda fun to guess. Now people think you are weird if you don't find out what you are having. I guess it really doesn't matter as the baby is coming any way...tee hee, well usually. It's a fun part of life that I relive in my head sometimes. Take care and I'm praying your pregnancy goes well.

  22. I wouldn't be able to wait a second to know the sex! Think of all that gender appropriate shopping to be done before birth:)
I love the way you found out the sex of the other one! So creative:)
BTW, I have an award waiting for you on my blog, come and grab it because you truly deserve it:)

  23. I understand that same desire to put a name to your baby...I wanted to find a name for Abi for that same reason...the first pregnancy I had no fears, etc. but then my eyes were opened as friends lost babies late term and so 2nd time around I had many more thoughts...

I got to find out on my birthday -- so fun!
(i was so prepared to hear it was a boy that when the lady told us it was a girl I started crying...I didn't even think to prepare myself for hearing that!)

Friends of mine had a "sex party" :) for the day after they found out...they had pink and blue plastic easter eggs that they had everyone pick the color they thought the sex was and then they had put a piece of blue candy in each of them so when we all had picked our guess we all opened them at the same time- it was kind of fun to all find out in the same moment. plus it gave them a day to rejoice and know just the two of them this special little secret :)
