Let your kids be kids
We were hustling and bustling trying to get dinner cooked. In the midst of all the hustling and bustling little man decided to "help" by lining the water bottles on the counter top. Yes, he was in the way. Yes, he made the job of getting dinner cooked and on the table take twice as long. And I was tempted to get frustrated but instead my husband and I embraced it.
We counted with him as he went down the line of bottles. "Ooooonnneee, twooooo, tweeee, foouurr...YAY!"
I have a confession to make. I'm one of those moms that doesn't like mess. And I realize that I have also missed out on a few opportunities to let my kid be a kid due to my excessive need for order and cleanliness.
But this night we slowed down a little bit and played along with his need to "help". It only took five minutes and the laughs and cheers we shared were worth it!!

Yes . . . once this time is gone, you can't go back. So slowing down every now and then is good.
ReplyDeleteLook how big he is getting . . . wow!
my husband doesn't like mess, so we make sure we do playdough, sand box, moon sand, painting, etc when he's not around!
ReplyDeleteSuch a good reminder! Very sweet of him. :)
ReplyDeleteI so agree. Actually, before I had my baby boy, I'd resolved not to get too caught up and let him learn by doing. So far I think I've done alright. The messes are temporary, but the lessons learned last a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI am THAT mom too. I HATE mess... To break that, I let the kids finger paint......OH THE MESS!!! hahahaha, but, I relaxed and thought, I remember doing this and I LOVED it. :) Lesson learned. Good for you to just step back and count with him, that was adorable!!!!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with this daily, to let my kids be kids. It's usually a losing battle for me, but on a rare day I am able to conquer it..
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing =)
Aww such a cute picture! I watch my godson from time to time and his favorite activity is to play blocks which get everyyywhere lol my friend always gets frustrating. I will tell her about this post..Let kids be kids :)
ReplyDeleteI hate mess too! My one year old has really helped me to loosen up though! I still cringe, but at least I allow the mess sometimes ;o)
ReplyDeleteso cute! I will have a hard time with that too, when I am a mom! I will definitely have to remember this!
ReplyDeleteI don't like messes either but I have learned to have Brad help, too. Even with actual cooking and baking! Ugh....but it's worth it because he loves to "make"- that's what he calls cooking. :)
